Mexico's Colima volcano spews smoke and ash

Mexico's Colima or "Fire" Volcano continued to spew gas, ash and incandescent fragments into a cloudy sky at dawn on Friday (September 30).

According to website volcanodiscovery.com, increased activity at the volcano is due to the growth of a new lava dome.

Activity over the past week has increased as the dome, which was discovered in February this year, grows.

The dome has become visible from areas at the southern feet of the volcano since Tuesday (September 27), the website reported.

The Fire Volcano, officially known as the Colima Volcano, is part of the Pacific's Ring of Fire.

Mexico contains over 3,000 volcanoes, but only 14 are considered active.

Major eruptions in Mexican history have included the 1953 eruption of the Paricutin Volcano in Michoacan, the 1982 eruption of Tacana Volcano in Chiapas and the 1986 eruption of the Colima Volcano.

Indonesia volcano "Merapi" erupts again

- Mount Merapi began erupting Tuesday and has killed at least 39 people in the past week. Another 74 have been injured and more than 71,000 people have been evacuated, according to the National Disaster Management Board. - Mount Merapi releases lava for the first time since its latest round of activity began earlier this week. Jakarta, Indonesia 2 nov. (CERES TV News) Indonesia's Mount Merapi started spewing hot ash clouds Monday morning, sending a 1.5-kilometer plume toward the south, CNN reported. Volcanic ash also blew eastward toward Boyolali, Central Java, said Kurniadi of the Indonesian Volcanology and Geological Disaster Monitoring staff. Kurniadi goes by one name, as many Indonesians do. Residents on the volcano started fleeing yet again. Many had returned to their homes to check on them as well as their farm animals after eruptions last week. Mount Merapi began erupting Tuesday and has killed at least 39 people in the past week. Another 74 have been injured and more than 71,000 people have been evacuated, according to the National Disaster Management Board. The 3,000-meter Merapi is famously unpredictable. An eruption killed two people in 2006 and another killed more than 60 villagers in 1994. About 1,300 people died when Merapi erupted in 1930. Also last week, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia's coast, triggering a tsunami and killing at least 449. Kazakhstan reiterates anti-terrorism commitment with new code of conduct

United Nations, Sep 28 (EFE) .- Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov addressed the 73rd UN General Assembly in Friday to stress Kazakhstan’s commitment to fight international terrorism and to present a new code of conduct signed by more than 70 countries and "open to signing by other states."
 
On the fourth day of the United Nations Assembly, Abdrakhmanov presented a new "Code of Conduct to Achieve a World Free of Terrorism" that which "invites all countries to coordinate closely in the fight against this evil", a document to which 70 states have already joined, he explained.
 
"We invite all of you to show your good will in the fight against this disastrous phenomenon," Abdrakhmanov told representatives of nearly 200 countries.
 
Kazakhstan has ratified 16 of the 19 UN instruments to combat terrorism, with measures taken for early accession to the remaining three treaties.
 
"A stronger global leadership in the fight against terrorism remains crucial, we must do more to address the roots of radicalization using the best practices and relevant instruments of the UN," said Abdrakhmanov.
 
The Kazakh minister also reported that his country is actively working "within the framework of the Joint Action Plan to Implement the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (GCTS) in Central Asia."
 
Abdrakhmanov recalled that, in his speech before the General Assembly in 2015, the president of his country already expressed his desire to undertake several initiatives against terrorism.
 
He also said that this Assembly comes when "millions of people live under the shadow of frightful wars, as in Syria, Yemen and many other corners of the globe."
 
"Kazakhstan believes that war can never be a lasting solution to any problem, based on this conviction, we share the belief that the solution to the current crisis in Syria is Syria-led and inclusive politics," said the Kazakh foreign minister. . EFE

Muslims in South Asia celebrate end of Ramadan with Eid al-Fitr festival

Kathmandu, Jun 26 (EFE).- Followers of Islam across the countries of South Asia Monday celebrated the Eid al-Fitr festival marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims abstain from food and sexual activity from dawn until sunset.

Muslims living in the Himalayan republic of Nepal Monday morning celebrated Eid by meeting for prayers in Kathmandu's huge Kashmiri Masjid mosque.

Devotees began arriving at the large central mosque around 8 am local time, and prayers started about an hour later, an epa journalist reports.

At the peak of Monday morning's prayer session, about 10,000 people were gathered in the Kashmiri mosque, one of the largest in Nepal and which sits just a short walk from the Nepalese capital's iconic Kathmandu Durbar Square, a former royal palace.

Once prayers ended around 9.30 am, people exchanged greetings and hugs.

Similar Eid scenes played out in other parts of South Asia, and hundreds of kilometers south of Kathmandu in Calcutta of eastern India, thousands of Muslims met Monday morning inside one of the city's oldest mosques.

In this southern Calcutta mosque, built more than a century ago, as devotees told epa, more than 4,000 people met for Eid prayers.

The mood was reportedly upbeat following the prayers, with people eagerly explaining to epa the history of the mosque and the local area.

Some 250 kilometers northeast of Calcutta, in the bustling Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, thousands of Muslims flocked to the National Eid Prayer Ground, an area set up near the High Court specially for the end of Ramadan.

The spacious Prayer Ground has been used for Eid for several years, an epa journalist reports, and about 15,000 people came here to pray Monday.

With Dhaka being one of the world's largest and most densely populated cities, stability was a top priority for Eid prayers, and devotees had to queue up before they could enter the grounds, and security personnel helped them come in.

In addition, the country's President Abdul Hamid and several other senior officials attended prayers, with a few thousand armed police officers standing guard around the grounds.

People were overheard saying they hope God helps make Bangladesh safe and they prayed for peace for all of humanity.

About 570 million people across South Asia - mostly in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh - are followers of Islam, and account for around 30 percent of the world's Muslim population.
